Husband and Wife Ministers Accuse Each Other of Assault

The Bishop of True Vine Ministries in Lafayette has been arrested, charged with domestic abuse. Police arrested Bishop Jarvis Harmon at his church Monday night after an alleged assault on his wife, Pastor Victoria Harmon. The couple co-founded the church back in 1985.

On True Vine Ministries' website, the Harmon's are described as "Truly a man and woman after God's heart,"--a description nowhere to be found in protective orders filed by both parties against one another Tuesday.

"He has been involved in sexual sins for years," said Victoria Harmon of her husband.

In the protective order she filed, Victoria Harmon alleges her husband was having affairs and has a pornography problem. She says that's why he snapped on her Monday night.

"He bit my finger, tried to bite both of my fingers and to tear them up and he hit me first in my eye, he attacked me," she said.

"That's not the case," said attorney Derriel C. McCorvey, who represents Jarvis Harmon.

In his protective order filed after he was released from jail, the bishop says he was attacked by his wife, who he says was upset that he was being re-established as senior pastor at their church. McCorvey says Victoria Harmon has ulterior motives for how she portrayed her husband in protective order.

"Consider that you have Bishop Harman obtaining a restraining order and that Mrs. Harman finding out about that and then launching these vicious attacks against him," he said.

Also in court records filed Tuesday, the bishop named his son Jamie and sister Rose as perpetrators in his alleged assault. He's also filed protective orders against them.

A hearing on this matter is set for October 7th. The bishop has also filed for divorce from his wife.
