SORRENTO, La. (AP) - An alligator hunter has been cited for possessing alligators that were not tagged in the McElroy swamp area in Ascension Parish.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents say they cited 65-year-old Arnold Villeneurve, of Sorrento, on Sept. 2. The agents said Wednesday that Villeneurve was caught with two untagged alligators. In searching his home, the agents said they found seven more untagged alligators in a cooler.
Agents issued Villeneurve citations for nine counts of failing to tag the alligators. He faces fines and jail time. He also may be required to pay restitution for each of the alligators seized and face the loss of his alligator hunter's license.
