The Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) held their 18th annual job fair, giving job seekers an opportunity to meet face to face with employers. The fair comes after the unemployment rate in Lafayette Parish is 4.1%, compared to 7.5% nationally. Even though the unemployment rate is much lower in Lafayette, some people are still having trouble finding work.
More than 100 job seekers took advantage of free workshops from resume writing to interviewing techniques. Leda President Gregg Gothreaux, says employers are impressed with the pool of applicants this year. "We had a few less people and we've got more businesses looking for employees. so i think that's a reflection of the phenomenal, the fact that we're 12th lowest unemployment rate in the unites states," says Gothreaux.
There were more than 115 employers recruiting during today's job fair. Leda estimates more than 15 hundred jobseekers attended the event.
