HOUMA, La. (AP) - Ellender High School's football coach is free
on $100,000 bond after being booked with a charge of indecent
behavior with a 15-year-old female student.
Authorities tell The Courier that 33-year-old Timothy Betts was
released Friday, after his wife posted bond on the charges of
indecent behavior with a juvenile and sexual battery.
Betts does not have a listed phone number and could not be
reached for comment Saturday. The Courier reported that his cell
phone appeared to be turned off Friday, and he did not return a
message left on that number.
Schools Superintendent Philip Martin says Betts remains employed
pending investigation by the school system.
Investigators told the Courier that Betts and the girl were in a
relationship, but the legal age of consent in Louisiana is 17.
