A Texas man is behind bars, accused of shooting at people during a carjacking in Washington. Washington Police was dispatched to the 700 block of West Vine Street after a report of shots fired. Officers say when they arrived they saw a dark colored vehicle speeding away from the scene. Officers went after the vehicle, being driven by an unknown male. According to police, the driver refused to stop, driving through several stop signs to try to flee. The driver then turned into a parking lot of the Med Express on South Main Street where police say he took off running.
The Washington Police K-9 team then dispatched to the scene, where they found the subject in a wooded area not from from his abandoned vehicle. The driver was identified as Raekwon Mitchell of Houston, Texas. Mitchell told police he had come to Washington in an attempt to carjack a vehicle on West Vine Street by any means necessary. Police say Mitchell fired one round through the driver side window of the vehicle at a man when Mitchell believed the victim wouldn't give up his vehicle. Mitchell then fired a second time, hitting a woman in the foot. The female victim was taken to Opelousas General where she was treated and released.
Raekwon Mitchell was booked for 2 counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder, one count of Carjacking, one count of No Drivers License, and one count of Reckless Operation. The Washington Police department is still investigating the incident and more arrests are expected.
