The Louisiana House has given the cold shoulder to wine ice cream.
Only 44 lawmakers supported a proposal by Monroe Rep. Marcus Hunter, a Democrat, that would allow sales of the boozy treats in Louisiana. The measure needed 53 votes to pass.
The measure passed out of committee with unanimous approval after restrictions were added to ban underage access to the alcohol-laced ice cream.
No one spoke in opposition on the House floor, before the 46-44 vote against it.
Under the proposal, ice cream and confectionaries with alcohol of more than 10 percent could be sold in the state, provided the customer is 21 or older. Sales would be restricted to retailers that are authorized to sell liquor.
