NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - Iberia Parish Jail inmates have returned to a menu that includes pizza, oatmeal, vegetables, chicken and other hot meals with the recent delivery of kitchen equipment paid for by the Iberia Parish Council.
Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Toby Hebert addressed the Iberia Parish Council's finance committee a few weeks ago and said broken kitchen equipment had forced the jail to serve sandwiches to inmates instead of hot meals.
The council approved spending $37,420 on two 40-gallon manual tilt gas skillets and one double-deck natural gas convection oven to fix the immediate kitchen issues.
While waiting on the items to be delivered, Iberia Parish Jail Warden Wesley Hayes says that inmates were given
one hot meal per day, alternating between breakfast, lunch and dinner.
