Hospital releases trooper shot during traffic stop

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) The Louisiana state trooper who was shot during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 Saturday spent his Independence Day at home with family and friends after being released from the hospital.

WAFB-TV reported on Monday that Sgt. Markus Smith with Louisiana State Police said the trooper was allowed to go home around 9 a.m. Sunday.

He is recovering from gunshot wounds to his stomach and leg after he was shot during a traffic stop on I-10 East.

Two men from Texas were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Robert Armendariz is charged with attempted murder of an officer. Investigators believe he shot the trooper. Fabian Herrera is charged with accessory to attempted murder
