BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Lafayette attorney and funeral home
director was ousted as chair of the governing board for the public
hospital to be built in New Orleans, before the first board
meeting.
The LSU System announced Monday that Elaine Abell has been
replaced as chair of the New Orleans Academic Medical Center Board.
System spokesman Charles Zewe says a majority of the LSU Board
of Supervisors wanted one of their members as chairman of the
hospital board, and chose Robert "Bobby" Yarborough.
Yarbrough, of Baton Rouge, is co-owner of Manda Fine Meats.
Abell will keep a seat on the hospital board.
The Legislature created the nonprofit hospital corporation to
oversee the replacement for Charity Hospital and the interim
hospital opened after Hurricane Katrina.
