Press Release- In recognition of National Hunger & Homelessness Week, Acadiana Regional Coalition on Homelessness & Housing (ARCH), Lafayette Catholic Service Centers (LCSC) and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office (LSPO) will host its annual resource fair, Homeless Connect: Linking Citizens with Resources & Services, on November 17, 2010 from 9 am to 2 pm.
Homeless Connect is a one-stop opportunity for homeless individuals and families to access medical, educational, emergency and housing resources from a broad spectrum of regional homeless providers, representing an 8 parish (St. Martin, St. Mary, Evangeline, Acadia, Vermilion, St. Landry, Lafayette, Iberia) area. The event will be held on the Lafayette Catholic Service Centers campus located on the 400 block of St. John Street and a lunch meal will be provided by Lafayette Parish Sheriff's department. All services and resources provided will be offered free of charge, and will include medical screenings, hair cuts, goods distribution and information on topics such as hurricanes and other natural disasters, AIDS/HIV, homelessness, poverty, education, Veterans Affairs, healthcare, childcare and employment.
At this time the Homeless Connect planning committee is asking for donated items to distribute at the event. Any donations from the following list would help to improve the personal hygiene, warmth and safety for homeless individuals attending the event. Any assistance in providing these items, or referrals to others that might be able to help, would be greatly appreciated. Monetary donations are also accepted to assist in purchasing materials needed for the event.
Last year's Homeless Connect assisted more than 375 people and the event is expected to expand to reach even more this year. Please contact Angelle Bellard with Faith House at 337-267-9422 to make a donation or with any questions.
