Home for the Holidays Helps Habitat

Imagine getting a half-million dollar home for just one hundred dollars. Someone will be that lucky. The drawing is coming up December 9th.

It's a project of the Acadian Home Builders Association and KATC.  Your $100 ticket purchase gives you a chance at a new home in the Brookshire Gardens Subdivision. Proceeds from the Home for the Holidays ticket sales benefit several local charities, including Habitat for Humanity.

The Iglus family is picking out paint and getting ready to move into their 3 bedroom home in North Lafayette. Angel Iglus is looking forward to more room for her three children. She's a hairdresser at a Wal-Mart salon, her husband Cory is a foreman for public works. Without Habitat for Humanity... they would still be in an apartment.

"They'll have a yard to play in and the environment is so much better and me and my husband just to be owners, is unbelievable, it's just indescribable," said Iglus.

It isn't a handout, they've had to work for their home. Now they're purchasing it at cost. But, finally having their own place is priceless. "I think it makes a life changing difference for people like Angel and Cory and their family because its an opportunity that wouldn't be extended otherwise for people to own a home of their own to actually build equity," said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Melinda Taylor.

The Iglus family will be in their new home in mid-January. And you can be in your new home sooner than that, but you can't win if you don't enter. Just look for the Home for the Holidays icon on the homepage.
