Robert Lee Heard (pictured), the man arrested for the murder of his wife in Eunice has a violent criminal background and a connection to the death of a Hollywood actress' brother.
It was back in 1993, when Heard was arrested for the shooting-death of 17 year old Michael Ensley, who is the brother of actress Niecy Nash. Heard was 15 years old at the time of the murder and was charged as a juvenile. According to the Los Angeles Times, the shooting happened inside Reseda High School in Reseda, California, where both Ensley and Heard were students. Heard was held in a California youth facility until early 2002.
At some point Heard made his way to Louisiana. In 2003 he was arrested in Shreveport on an attempted first degree murder charge. He was in jail until July, 2011 when he was released on parole.
He's now facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of his wife. Friday night Eunice Police were called to a home on Prairie Avenue for reports of a woman found dead. Deputy Chief Varden Guillory, Sr., says 35 year old Demetra Doyle Heard, Robert Heard's wife, died of multiple stab wounds.
Unable to locate Robert Heard, Eunice Police issued a statewide alert. Less than 12 hours after his wife's body was found, Heard was arrested in Shreveport without incident.
He was transferred back to Eunice late Saturday night, and had no comment as he was booked for the first-degree murder of his wife.
E-mails to Niecy Nash's publicist were not returned Saturday night.
Coincidentally, the home where Demetra Heard was found dead was the scene of another murder 18-months ago. Delores Wilkes was found beaten to death in March of 2011. Wilkes' friend, Gerald Bellard was charged with 2nd degree murder in that case.
