Holiday activities set for the weekend

The holiday season kicks into high gear in Acadiana this weekend with a number of activities and parades.


Nuits de Noel in Downtown Sunset

The public is invited to Nuits de Noel, Christmas Nights in downtown Sunset. This is a weekend of holiday cheer, merry mingling, and after business hours Christmas Shopping.

The event kicks of on Friday, November 30th & December 1st, from 5:00 PM to 9 PM visit antique and flea markets, art studios and even take in the flavor of one of our local restaurants.

The sparkle of Christmas lights in store fronts, decorated Christmas trees, and Christmas music in the background make Nuits de Noel the perfect mix for a festive weekend. Feel the spirit in the air as you move from shop to shop with the sounds of Christmas Gospel Choirs caroling and jolly ST Nick in the midst. Start the Christmas season with a festive shopping experience.

For the lucky ones on your gift list, we offer old world treasures, unique collectables, great new gift ideas, and one-of-a-kind local art. You may even find something special to add to your own Christmas wish list.

The markets and studios are filled with out-of-the-ordinary finds from past to present in antiques, primitives, mid-century, retro and modern furniture along with collectables from each era, and an amazing selection of local art in a variety of medias. The Sunset Cultural District allows for one-of-a-kind original art to be purchased tax free.

From now until Nuits de Noel you can purchase $1.00 raffle tickets for a chance to win a Christmas gift basket filled with wonderful gifts from Sunset merchants and artists. The tickets are available at all Sunset antique and flea markets. The drawing for a winner will be Saturday, December 1st, need not be present to win.

Nuits de Noel will be a spirited event certain to spark the Christmas spirit in your heart. Invite your family and friends and start your Holiday shopping along the streets of Downtown Sunset.



Santa Paws Parade will be held in Downtown Morgan City Saturday December 1 at 1:00 PM. Dress your pet in holiday attire. Pets must be on a leash. No pets prohibited by City Ordinance and poop-scooping required. No entry fee. Line up at 1:00pm at the corner of Front and Greenwood Streets. Wagons and mini-floats welcome. 15th annual, Family oriented traditional event. Area choirs and singers and musicians providing traditional holiday music. There will be booths with arts & crafts from local artists, and delicious food from the area. Pictures with Santa at the Community Center

At 2 p.m., enjoy the Carencro Christmas Children's Parade. This traditional family parade, features seasonal floats, marching band, upholding
the holiday spirit, rolling through the streets of Carencro, ending with no other than Santa himself.

LARC's Acadian Village will host its 32nd annual Christmas festival fundraiser, Noel Acadien au Village, from December 1-23, 2012, to benefit persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Noel Acadien au Village will feature half-a-million lights, including the fully lit Open Door Chapel, themed Acadian home porches, and lighted holiday displays, live entertainment, carnival rides, local cuisine, photos with Santa, holiday shopping, and more. New displays this year include Papa Noel in a Pirogue, Tunnel of Lights, and Floating Christmas Trees on the Bayou.

Sacre` Coeur 20th Annual Christmas Shopping Extravaganza K of C. Home, South Ave. E & Elm St, Crowley, LA 70526. Event DateAdmission $1.00 (12 and Younger free). Christmas in Scott will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Begnaud House (tourist center) 110 Benoit Patin Road Scott, LA 70583. Free admission. Local Cajun musicians will be on hand to provide FREE entertainment, along with Acadiana High Speech Club and Ossun Elementary School Choir. Refreshments will be sold. Also, Come and join us for the official lighting of our Christmas Tree and a visit/photo op with Santa Clause. This is the perfect event to put you in the Christmas Spirit and experience the great fellowship in our community.

Parade starts at 1:00 pm. It starts at HWY 93 at the corner of Bellmain Lane and ends at town hall on Burleigh Lane.




The Lafayette Sonic Christmas parade takes place on the first Sunday of December at 1:00. It is nearly a 60 year family tradition. It marks the arrival of Santa Claus to Lafayette. Floats, beads, bands, queens and of course Santa!

Route begins in downtown Lafayette and concludes in the Oil Center.

Magic on Main: Holiday Tour of Homes December 2, 2012 in New Iberia. The Shadows-on-the-Teche annual Holiday Tour of Homes is scheduled for December 2, 2012. This special "Magic on Main" event is presented Sunday evening from 4:00-7:00 and features eleven distinctive locations in New Iberia's historic district. These include private homes, historic buildings which exemplify preservation's adaptive reuse for business and historic houses of worship.

Private homes include: Mr.& Mrs. Tribbey Thornton on East Main, Mr.& Mrs. Vic Segura on West Main, Mr.& Mrs. Bud Cestia on French Street, Mr. & Mrs. George Sikes on East St. Peter and Mr. & Mrs. Michael Barras on Lee Street. Schwing Insurance Agency which was built as New Iberia's Post Office in 1903 and the Sliman Theater which features brick walls from an earlier era as a movie theater will be open during the Tour of Homes. Church of Epiphany, Congregation Gates of Prayer Synagogue and St. Peter's Church Rectory will all be featured during this tour. At Shadows-on-the-Teche, a Living History Tour with performers will depict Christmas preparations in the 19th century. Additionally, those who attend this tour can enjoy a reception at the Shadows and holiday music and treats at the Sliman Theater.

Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased in advance at the Shadows Visitors Center at 320 East Main Street, New Iberia and the Daily Iberian, 926 East Main Street.

The Shadows-on-the-Teche Visitor Center and shop will also be open throughout the day for your stocking stuffers and early Christmas shopping.
