A hit and run victim's family is left wondering who would do this and leave him to die. His name is Russell Lewis Sr. He was discovered in a ditch on the side of highway 85, at mile post 5.7. Authorities say he was hit Friday night but was found by a father and son Saturday morning. The 59 year old preliminary cause of death is multi system trauma.
Lewis is described by his family as a happy go lucky person, always trying to make people laugh. His brother, Roland Lewis, said he woke up Saturday morning and went through his routine, when he got a call. "I received a phone call around 12:30pm that my brother had been involved in a car accident," said Lewis.
That accident was in fact a hit and run that left his brother dead. 59 year old Russell Lewis was the third eldest of nine, a divorcee, and father of two. His brother Roland said, "He liked to dance a lot, he was club going." That's exactly what he was doing Friday night. He was out at Mr. P's lounge and at a sports club next door.
These are the places where he was last seen. They both are within walking distance from his house. Lewis' family says he didn't drive and they find it odd he ended up on the other side of town, 10 miles from his house. "There was a place where my brother never did venture out walking. So, I figure that somebody had to give him a ride to where he was going," said his brother.
For the family there are still many questions left unanswered. Funeral arraignments have not been made at this time. Family members are waiting for others to come in from out of state.
"The person that hit him, I hope they have a conscience mind that they can't live with that, and they need to turn themselves into authorities," said Lewis' brother Roland.
State police are looking for a molten red 2005 or newer dodge Durango or Dakota truck. The vehicle should have significant damage to the passenger side and also a passenger side headlight missing.
