SLIDELL, La. (AP) - An historic Slidell church was completely destroyed by a fire that investigators believe was deliberately set.
The St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1 says Wednesday's fire at Light of the World Church was one of four firefighters believe was intentionally set.
A passerby called 911 about 10:41 p.m. Chief Chad Duffaut says firefighters arrived on scene in seven minutes to find the church fully engulfed. Duffaut says firefighters also found another fire inside a tent on the same property. Both fires were extinguished and brought under control within 30 minutes.
A short time later, two more fires - in an old barn near the church and inside a parked sport utility vehicle - were found and extinguished.
All four fires are thought to be the result of arson.
