Highway Renamed to Honor Deceased Trooper

On Monday, August 23 at 9:00 a.m., Senator Willie Mount and Representative Brett Geymann will unveil a Memorial Dedication marker located on US Hwy 171 at milepost 5.6 in Calcasieu Parish.

A section of Hwy 171, beginning at the intersection of Sam Houston Jones Parkway will be renamed "Senior Trooper Duane Dalton Memorial Highway." His section of highway will end at You Winn Road.

Senior Trooper Dalton was killed in a two-car crash near Moss Bluff on January 12, 2010 around 7:30 p.m.

He is the 25th trooper to be killed in the line of duty in the history of the Louisiana State Police. Dalton leaves behind a wife and three children.
