A 21-year-old Tennessee man is facing drug charges after allegedly concealing over 30 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of his SUV. Detectives say that after attempting to stop the SUV for a traffic violation, Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Cpl. Kevin Hoover activated his unit's lights and sirens. The driver, Kendall M. Johnson, did not stop his vehicle and continued to flee from Hoover, traveling in excess of 100 mph.
According to Kim Myers, spokesperson for Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, "C.A.T. Team Detective Cpl. Chris Johnson joined the pursuit and both detectives followed the SUV as the driver continued to drive at a high rate of speed, exiting at Exit 20 in Sulphur and traveling southbound on Highway 27". Spike strips were deployed, disabling the vehicle, and Johnson allegedly abandoned the SUV fleeing southbound on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, Johnson was apprehended by the detectives.
Johnson was arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of CDS I (marijuana) with intent to distribute; aggravated flight from an officer; resisting an officer; and driving under suspension. Judge Clayton Davis set his bond at $59,500.
