Statement from Director of Operations Larry Adams with Rotorcraft Leasing Company on helicopter landing on highway.

This afternoon at approximately 2:20 PM Rotorcraft Leasing Company, LLC had two pilots conducting a maintenance check flight after the completion of routine maintenance on one of the company's aircraft operated from their Mouton Cove base. Larry Adams says during this flight they experienced engine problems which cause them to make a precautionary landing on Highway 167N two miles north of Abbeville Louisiana without damages of injuries. The aircraft will be brought to the Company's maintenance facilities in Broussard for a full detailed investigation.

A helicopter that landed on Hwy 167 between Abbeville and Maurice is now off on the side of the road. State Police say the pilot was the only person onboard and is not injured. He landed the chopper in the northbound lane, and after temporarily shutting down lanes, all traffic lanes are now open.

It's unknown why the pilot landed on the highway, but the company, RotorCraft Leasing, will be sending a statement shortly.
