BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A proposed ban on health insurance
coverage for all elective abortions has been scaled back by a
Senate committee to affect only the state insurance purchasing
pools set up by the federal health overhaul legislation.
Lawmakers on the Senate Health and Welfare Committee say they
were limiting the bill to the intentions first described by Gov.
Bobby Jindal and the House member who proposed it. They then
approved the measure in a 5-2 vote.
The House had passed the stricter version, but Rep. Frank
Hoffmann, the bill's sponsor, says he'll support the Senate
