Happening Now: Summer now means farmer's markets twice per week

Summertime now means that there will be farmer's markets twice-a-week at the Horse Farm, and the first mid-week market is underway this Wednesday evening.

The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market at the Horse Farm decided to offer new mid-week Markets in June and July so that farmers and growers will have more opportunity to offer fresh agricultural products during one of its peak production periods. The Market , in addition to its customary Saturday market times, will be open every Wednesday between June 4th and July 30th from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

"Wednesday Markets during the summer will give local farmers the opportunity to harvest fruits and vegetables twice a week during the most productive time of the agricultural year," says local Market grower Mark Hernandez. "Customers can shop for farm fresh groceries, baked goods, and handcrafted gifts after work and enjoy summer evenings at the Horse Farm with friends and family."

Carlos Russo, the Accidental Chef, offered a free cooking demonstration with seasonal ingredients at 5:15 p.m. for today's first-ever Mid-Week Market at the Horse Farm.

The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market at The Horse Farm regularly serves as a premier venue for seasonal, farm-based products, and artisanal creations, offered by local producers, artists and vendors in a celebratory atmosphere of community, enrichment and entrepreneurism, created through the mutual support of its members and patrons. The Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. year-round, and every Wednesday in June and July from 4-7 p.m. rain or shine. Visit
