Happening now: So far, $15,000 raised in LHS "Day of Remembrance"

Happening now: A moment of silence at LHS. The school is remembering the victims who were killed in this weekend's crash with a school bus carrying LHS baseball players. The accident happened around this time on Saturday.

Today's "Remembrance Day" will also consist of a collection from students, staff, and community members to raise money for the relatives of the victims in the accident. The money will be deposited into the "Cheatham-Escort" benefit account at Whitney Bank. Donations can be brought to Lafayette High anytime Friday and Monday. You can also donate HERE online; the proceeds from this account will go to LHS to disperse to families.
So far, the principal says they've raised approximately $15,000.

The victims in this weekend's crash were in a SUV that had a tire blow-out on Highway 90 in St. Mary Parish.  Visitation for LaDonna Cheatham; her son, Markus; her daughter, Destiny; and her nephew, DeWayne Escort, will be held on Saturday, March 1 at the Siracusaville Recreation Center from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. The funeral will begin immediately following the visitation.

All four will be buried in in the Mechanicville Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery in Houma.
