HAMMOND, La. (AP) - The city of Hammond has received a $740,000 grant from the Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Program to dig a new water well in Zemurray Park.
The old well was shut down in early 2010 because of sand issues, Mayor Mayson Foster told The Daily Star.
Foster said water quality in the area has not been affected by the well being out of operation.
The new well will allow more volume to enter city water lines, said Garry Knight, Hammond's water and sewer director.
