HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster says Fire Chief Paul Collura will step down Sept. 30 after more than 41 years of service with the city's fire department.
Foster tells The Advocate in a news release that Collura submitted his resignation letter Wednesday morning.
Foster said he will ask the Civil Service Board to meet as soon as possible to organize a test for fire chief.
If the position is not filled by Sept. 30, the mayor said the city could appoint an interim fire chief.
