HAMMOND, La. (AP) - The Hammond City Council has adopted a 2011-12 budget calling for $34.1 million in expenditures and $33.3 million in revenue.
Officials say a beginning carry-over fund balance from this fiscal year will more than cover anticipated spending in the new year.
The Advocate reports the largest expenditure in the coming fiscal year will be for the police department, with an anticipated budget of $8.4 million.
The cost of fire protection is pegged at $5.2 million, the second-largest item on the budget.
General administration costs for the coming year will be approximately $1.6 million.
