"Halo" recovering from severe injuries; Suspect arrested on cruelty charges

Deputies in Calcasieu have arrested 20-year-old suspect on charges of theft of an animal and aggravated cruelty to animals. Tyler Scott Sanders allegedly stole a pitt-bull puppy from a residence on Arkansas Street in August of 2013. Officials with Animal Services say they recovered the puppy in the 1300 block of 9th Street after receiving an injured animal call from a concerned mail carrier. Animal Services say the puppy had severe life threatening injuries and was transported to their office.

As is the normal practice in Pitt-Bull animal cases, control of the puppy was turned over to the Lake Charles Pitt-Bull Rescue. Deputies say the puppy was transported to a local veterinarian's office for treatment; it had broken bones, including a skull fracture. X-Rays additionally revealed the puppy had been shot in the head multiple times with a pellet gun type weapon.

The puppy is now referred to as "Halo" and is on the road to recovery but still suffers from limited mobility and vision.
