NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Hale Boggs Bridge spanning the Mississippi River in St. Charles Parish will be closed over the weekend as construction workers move equipment needed for the installation of cables.
The closure is needed so equipment
can be moved from the bridge's south tower to the north tower.
The equipment is used to drape temporary cables over the top of the towers, which will support the bridge's roadbed while new cables are installed.
The bridge, part of Interstate 310, will close Friday at 10 p.m. and reopen Monday at 4 a.m.
Bambi Hall, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation and Development, says the bridge will be closed again the following weekend during the same time period if the first phase of work is completed.
