An 11-year old girl battling cancer had to evacuate her Butte Larose home with her mom and grandparent after learning that her home could be destroyed by water flowing from the Mississippi river.
Monday evening volunteers with "Sky High for St. Jude" teamed up to give 11 year old, Hailey Meche and her mother, Michelle Chiasson a comfortable place to stay for a year.
They were able to raise enough money to sign a one year lease for a three bedroom home in Lafayette.
Hailey thought her day would be a typical Monday, however she says it was full of excitement after being introduced to her home away from home.
"I like home my home some much, I don't know what to say," said Hailey.
Volunteers are also hosting a bbq fundraiser to help the family. For more information about the event feel free to send questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
