Gulf Island Fabrication CEO to retire Jan. 1

HOUMA, La. (AP) - The head of Terrebonne Parish's largest private company will retire Jan. 1.
The Courier reports that Kerry Chauvin has been at Gulf Island Fabrication for 27 ½ years, most of them as CEO and board chairman.
Chauvin says he has some health problems, and he and his wife would like to travel.
President and chief operating officer Kirk Meche will become CEO. Board member John Laborde will become board chairman.
The company builds offshore oil platforms, related structures and ships. It had 2,200 workers in November - double the number in 2009.
It's the largest private employer based in Terrebonne Parish, according to the annual survey by The Courier and Daily Comet.
Chauvin plans to consult for Gulf Island after he retires.
