Guided Hike and Knitting Event at Chicot Saturday

VILLE PLATTE - Join the site naturalist for a relaxing yet informative hike through the woods on Saturday, October 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Louisiana State Arboretum.

The program will introduce participants to the beauty of our different forest types, focusing on the prominent features of the season. Join us for a walk along the Arboretum trails.

"Programs like this give visitors the opportunity to learn about nature through, enlightening first-hand experiences "said Kim Hollier, site curator.

The Louisiana State Arboretum is a 600-acre preservation area providing six miles of hiking trails amid some of Louisiana's most magnificent trees. Nature programs are offered throughout the year on varying subjects from wildlife gardening to birdwatching, and for groups of 10
or more by request. The Arboretum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $1 per person to enter Chicot State Park. Once inside Chicot, the Arboretum is free.

The Arboretum Visitor Center is located six miles north of Ville Platte on La. 3042, within Chicot State Park or three miles south of La. 106.

KNITTING IN NATURE PROGRAM SET FOR OCTOBER 23

AT THE LOUISIANA STATE ARBORETUM

VILLE PLATTE - Learn a new hobby or continue an old one on Saturday, October 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Louisiana State Arboretum in Ville Platte.

The site Naturalist will teach the basics of knitting with all natural yarns and needles with the forest as a backdrop. New knitters should call to register. Experienced knitters may call to receive a supply list to make nature coasters or bring your own project.
