Governor Bobby Jindal has signed a bill that will allow two towns to access directly funds from the Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission. Senator Jonathon Perry's bill allows Gueydan and Maurice to dip into funds allocated to them to improve their recreation facilities and youth recreation programs. Previously, the towns had to rely on funds from a parishwide occupancy tax to pay for recreation improvements, but that tax was allowed to expire in 2012. The law takes effect immediately.
