Guama's Restaurant and Bar in downtown Lafayette is closing its doors.
The restaurant located on Jefferson Street has been open for 13 years, serving a variety of Cuban food and drinks. Owners Julieta and Rubens Mesa opened the eatery together shortly after they were married 13 years ago. Guama's was one of the first restaurants in downtown Lafayette that was allowed, by the city, to provide outdoor seating for their customers.
As of Monday afternoon, the restaurant's furniture was already cleared out. Julieta tells KATC the reason for the closure is that they just aren't seeing the support from the customers anymore. The Mesa's are thankful for the support they did get from the community after all these years, but Julieta does want to remind everyone it's important to support your local businesses and restaurants.
