Today, August 31, the Iberia Parish government and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had a ceremonial groundbreaking for the construction of an Iberia Parish wastewater treatment facility near the Acadiana Regional Airport.
The future site of the wastewater water treatment facility will be 713 Northwest Bypass(Hwy 3212)
New Iberia, La.70560 (adjacent to SugArena)
Background: This project provides for the development of a wastewater treatment facility near the Acadiana Regional Airport in Iberia Parish which will be able to handle current sewer requirements and any future economic growth and development in a large commercial and industrial area near and at the airport and along the Highway 90 (Future I-49) corridor. Once constructed, the new wastewater treatment facility will benefit the Iberia Parish economy by enabling the development of new business in the area.
Initial construction of this project is the result of a project partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Iberia Parish. The federal portion of this project is funding through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, commonly referred to as the "stimulus" act, is an unprecedented effort to jumpstart our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century.
