Grant applications for FHWA recreational trail funds due Thursday

Applications for federal funds to support recreational trails are due to the Office of State Parks, Division of Outdoor Recreation no later than Thursday, May 1.

Grant requests seeking financial support from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Recreational Trails Program (RTP) for Louisiana can be used in the acquisition and/or development of outdoor recreational trails and trail facilities. This program is funded with Federal funds and must be matched by 20% of the project cost coming from the project sponsor.

Applications are available online at the Office of State Parks Web site
(, to print and complete before mailing. The FHWA RTP is a reimbursement program in which approved projects receive matching costs funds upon approval by the FHWA and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. The program is open to political subdivisions, non-profit organizations, and commercial entities (under certain circumstances).

RTP has provided more than $30 million to Louisiana since 1993, providing for more than 300 recreational trails projects throughout Louisiana including motorized (ATVs, OHVs, motorcycles, etc.), bicycle, mountain bike, paddling, equestrian, hiking/walking trails.
