The Lafayette man accused of kidnapping his grandson has surrendered to authorities, but the child remains missing.
Monty Wilson turned himself in this afternoon at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and was charged with simple kidnapping.
Wilson is accused of "knowingly decoying and keeping away" his grandson, three-year-old Joshua Lowe, from Department of Children and Family Services agents after the state granted the agency was granted custody of the child on July 9.
Deputies say Lowe was not with Wilson during the surrender. Investigators are interviewing Wilson to find out where the child is.
Lowe is described as standing 3'4" and weighing 39 pounds. Lowe has brown hair and brown eyes.
