A Lafayette Grand Jury will decide the fate of a mother and boyfriend today, after an unthinkable tragedy in Lafayette back in November. A homicide investigation involving a 3-year-old boy. Warning, many will find this story disturbing.
The three-year-old is identified as Julian Madera. The toddlers mother and her boyfriend were arrested in connection with his death. The boy was found dead around 10:30a.m. on November 29th, when deputies were called to a home on Kaliste Saloom, near E-Broussard road in Lafayette.
According to the arrest affidavit, deputies say 21-year-old Landon Broussard showed up at his grandmother's house carrying the badly bruised, naked body of the 3-year-old boy. After further investigation, police say the boy suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head, face and neck. He also had a split lip, part of one ear was torn and there were also apparent traumatic injuries to the boy's privates. 21-year-old Landon Broussard is charged with first degree murder. The toddlers mother, 22-year-old Laura Smith is charged with principle to first degree murder. The coroner's office did rule Julian's death as a homicide. Again a grand jury will decide the fate of both Landon Broussard and Laura Smith today at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse.
