BATON ROUGE - Today, Governor Bobby Jindal released a statement regarding GM's announcement that it will close its Hummer division, after the proposed sale to Sichuan Tengzhong was not completed.
Governor Jindal said, "We are certainly disappointed that the deal to sell the Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong was not completed. However, we are absolutely committed to pursuing every possible option to save these jobs in Northwest Louisiana. We still have several potential alternatives to secure the future of the facility and keep our people at work. Motors Liquidation Company, which now owns the Shreveport facility, has pledged to work with us to identify and secure additional job-creating prospects at the facility, and we will use the Mega Fund, if needed, to help secure a project that would retain or create jobs at the facility.
"Secretary Moret will be meeting with local officials tomorrow morning by phone to discuss several of the alternatives for the facility that we began developing months ago. Securing the future of the GM-Shreveport facility remains one of our top economic development priorities."
