Gov. Jindal to fill Gibsland vacancy

GIBSLAND, La. (AP) - The town of Gibsland is waiting on the governor's office to fill a vacancy on the Board of Aldermen.

An opening was created Dec. 13 when Alderwoman Katherine Mixon resigned. Mixon, who's on sick leave from her employment, cited health reasons for her departure.

Because the vacancy was not filled with an appointment by Mayor Odell Key within 10 days of Mixon's resignation, the decision is left up to the governor's office to name an officeholder who will serve temporarily until a special election can be held.
