Google is hosting a series of workshops this morning. More than one hundred people are expected to participate in the website workshops this morning and the goal is to help get locally owned and operated companies on-line.
But why choose lafayette?
Louisiana Immerrsive Technologies Enterprise or LITE in Lafayette attracts businesses from all over the world because of its advanced technology.
"With our theater we have the ability to seat over 100 people with wifi capabilities, outlet boxes for everybody. It really is a perfect venue for Google to put on an event of this caliber," said LITE Communications Director Erin Ryan.
This isn't the first time Google has come to Lafayette, they've also participated in Fiber fest.
"Lafayette is on the map and people recognize the talent, the entrepreneurial spirit that's here, the technology, the fiber connectivity," said Ryan.
The fiber connection Lafayette Utilities System has installed is one of the main reasons Google is attracted to the Hub City.
"We have something really, really special here and when companies like Google recognize that, that's telling you we're getting the attention of the kind of companies who may come here one day, who knows."
More than one hundred people are expected to attend this morning. Participants will receive a unique domain name without a charge for one year. Terry Huval hopes workshops like this will continue to attract others to the Hub City.
"Financially, being able to attract new businesses, more positive attention to the community."
The website workshops start at 9:00 this morning. Not only are Google representatives in town, but Senator Mary Landrieu is expected to attend as well as City-Parish President Joey Durel.
