GONZALES, La. (AP) - The Gonzales City Council has approved a resolution to work with the Ascension Parish government on a $1 million Community Development Block Grant that will help fund a new police station.
The city has also set aside $3 million in its capital outlay budget to fund the new facility.
Chief Sherman Jackson says that the current police station is in the city hall complex with about 5,000 square feet of space.
Mayor Barney Arceneaux said the grant will be administered through Ascension Parish government, and the vote was part of the CDB grant process to get the funds.
