GONZALES, La. (AP) - The Gonzales City Council has approved a
measure to reduce the rate at which annual merit raises are given
to city employees.
The ordinance, approved Monday, brings city regulations
governing pay raises in line with changes laid out in the 2011
budget.
The change reduced the annual merit raise
from 5 percent per year to 2.283 percent.
Council members say the move allows the city to avoid cutting
employee positions, as some other municipalities in the area have
done.
