GONZALES, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Regional Airport south of
Gonzales is getting a new lighting system.
George Rodeillat, vice president of the Ascension-St. James Airport Authority, says the $642,000 project will replace an antiquated runway lighting system with a new system using energy-saving LED lights.
Rodeillat said Thursday the LED budget also covers the cost of installing the new lighting system onto taxiways, and to the airport's other navigational aids, which will ultimately make takeoffs and landings safer at the facility.
Funding for construction comes from a federal Department of Energy grant secured by Ascension Parish government.
