Almost seventy girl scouts from Opelousas are heading to Washington D.C. to celebrate the 100th birthday of Scouting, but their trip was close to being cancelled.
Almost a month before troop 20-22 was set to depart, USA Bus Charter wanted an extra four thousand dollars as an increase in fuel charge. The girl scouts raised 600 dollars but feared they would have to cancel their trip because of the added fee.
Ten minutes after KATC made several phone calls to USA Bus Charter, the company decided to reverse the added charge.
"He's like we are going to drop the charges. Please just stop the phone calls. We're dropping the charges. So, we're just so ecstatic to get that phone call. Our trip is paid in full and we're ready to go to D.C," said Girl Scout Troop Leader Mary Stelly.
The troop is set to leave for Washington in early June.
