A political ad attacking Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for speaking French is not sitting well with some in the heart of Cajun Country.

"I personally, was offended," said Warren Perrin, who sits on the board for the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL).

The ad is being run by Newt Gingrich's campaign, and tries to align Romney with Sen. John Kerry, D-MA. It features two clips of both Romney and Kerry speaking French, you can see the full ad by clicking here.

Perrin is encouraging CODOFIL supporters to write the Gingrich campaign about the ad, because he says it misses the mark and promotes a negative connotation of the French language.

"We won't give up our struggle to make sure that French language continues for many generations," said Perrin.

KATC reached out to the Gingrich campaign for comment, but as of Monday night we have not received a response.
