The New Orleans-area flood board that filed a lawsuit against 97 oil, gas and pipeline companies last summer is expected to discuss the future of that lawsuit in light of legislation aimed at outlawing it.
Thursday's meeting of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East will include a closed-door session to discuss the litigation. Also scheduled is an open session in which the board will hear from lawyer Gladstone Jones, one of the lead attorneys on the lawsuit.
Gov. Bobby Jindal, who opposes the lawsuit, recently signed legislation forbidding the flood board from pursuing it. Supporters of the lawsuit have said that new law will likely be challenged. Thursday's flood board meeting in Chalmette could determine the next legal steps.
