Fruit of the Loom, Inc. announced today the permanent closure of its Distribution Center in Jeanerette, Louisiana. Approximately 178 employees are affected by this announcement. The decision is the result of continued consolidation efforts by the company to remain competitive in a global market. The phase down is expected to begin on or around December 1 and be completed by December 31.
"This decision is in no way a reflection on the dedication and efforts of the employees in our Jeanerette distribution center, but is a result of a competitive business environment," said James Dodwell, Vice President of Distribution.
Employees affected by the announcement will be compensated in accordance with the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN). State and local officials have been notified to provide any available assistance as well.
