Kenny Hilliard was a star on the football field at Patterson High but he struggled as a student.
Hilliard read on a third grade level his freshman year of highschool until he was introduced to elementary level reading program called "Fast Forword".
"At one time I couldn't read a book and explain what's going on; I use to lose focus in the book," said Hilliard.
Because Hilliard had a difficult time in school he considered dropping out, but now the program has him reading at grade level.
Hilliard's football coaches, Tommy Minton along with other mentors were impressed with his improvement.
"During Kenny's sophomore year my son taught him and some of the other coaches taught him, and they was talking about how his writing had improved and how it makes sense," said Tommy Minton.
Fast Forward has also assisted Kenny with increasing his ACT scores so he could get a football scholarship to Louisiana State University.
"I have a lot of confidence now that I can sit down and read a book," said Hilliard.
