After a cloudy and wet start to the New Year, drier and colder weather will return to Acadiana later this week with sub-freezing temperatures likely by Friday morning.
Following rain and temperatures in the 50s Wednesday look for skies to clear with breezy and colder conditions moving into the area Thursday afternoon.
Temperatures will likely drop to near or below freezing Friday morning with lows ranging in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
We could see another light freeze/frost Saturday morning before temperatures moderate this weekend.
Another quick moving disturbance could bring rain back to the area Sunday, and depending on how the pattern evolves, we could see another significant delivery of cold air next week...and there is the possibility that the next air mass in Acadiana will be colder.
We could see temperatures dropping into the mid-20s mid-next week with highs only near 40.
With arctic air dominating much of the High Plains, Midwest and Eastern U.S. over the next two weeks it would not be surprising to see rather cold waves across Acadiana through at least the second week of January...stay tuned and cover your plants!
