National Weather Service offering Free Storm Spotters Training Feb. 23, 6 - 8 p.m. at APSO 1037 Capitol Avenue, Crowley. 783-4357
The Acadia Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness along with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles will be hosting free SKYWARN® training on February 23, 2012 to prepare individuals in the community to become severe weather "STORM SPOTTERS." Trained "STORM SPOTTERS" can identify and explain weather conditions to weather service professionals and by doing so, enhance the severe weather warning system. SKYWARN® is a voluntary program and covers:
• Basics of thunderstorm development
• Fundamentals of storm structure
• Identifying potential severe weather features
• Information to report
• How to report information
• Basic severe weather safety
Anyone who is interested in helping report severe weather to the NWS in Lake Charles should attend the training on February 23, 2012 at the Acadia Parish Sheriffs Office Training Room located at 1037 Capitol Av, Crowley, LA. The training will begin at 6:00 p.m. and last until 8:00 p.m.
Please come out and support Acadia Parish in our effort to become better prepared to defend ourselves against severe weather.
