Free export training now available for La. businesses

A series of three courses (Exporting 101, 201 & 301) on developing or expanding an export business is now being offered to Louisiana companies on multiple dates and in several locations throughout the state. Upcoming sessions are scheduled for Lake Charles, Lafayette, New Orleans and Kinder. Companies new to exporting or experienced exporters with employees needing export training are encouraged to sign up for the courses which are supported by the U.S. Department of Commerce, New Orleans U.S. Export Assistance Center and other export promotion and economic development partners within Louisiana.

Organized by Leake and Anderson, LLP through a federal grant, the training sessions primary focus is on (but not limited to) companies located in the Gustav and Ike disaster declared parishes of Ascension, Assumption, Calcasieu, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, St. Bernard, St. Landry, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Terrebonne or Vermilion.

The export training program is designed to train companies in developing an international business strategy while identifying the steps needed to find new consumers in foreign markets. The program will also cover key topics such as conducting market research, understanding foreign regulations and customs requirements, export financing and getting paid, export logistics, leveraging free trade agreements, connecting with agents, distributors, JV partners and buyers and much more.

Upcoming sessions include - Export 101: April 4 (Lafayette), April 5 (Lake Charles), May 14 (New Orleans); Export 201: April 18 (Kinder); May 15 (New Orleans); Export 301: April 19 (Kinder); May 16 (New Orleans).

A special Scholarship Program may fund qualified participants to attend the upcoming Gulf Coast World Trade Conference scheduled at the CoushattaGrandHotelApril 18 & 19, where two sessions of the training will also take place.
