The party reached all the way out to St. Mary Parish where the people of Franklin and Morgan City both argue their parade is the best around.
Morgan City is known for two things: oil and shrimp. Add Mardi Gras to the mix, and these people say it's the best around.
"It IS the best Mardi Gras around." Harley Francis says, "that's why they come out here!"
"This is my hometown." Hayley Rodriguez says, "I love it."
"New Orleans is too crazy," Nadine Fontenot said. "Morgan City is just right."
But just up the basin, the people of Franklin say their parade takes the king cake.
"This is where it is." Herman Bouie says, "this is the old Antebellum area and this is Franklin."
"We're a mix of south Louisiana, New Orleans and cajun culture," Lacey Keenze said.
Cajun culture rings loud and proud in Franklin but who has the best parade in St. Mary Parish?
"This is the place where everything is happening." Francis says, "right here in Morgan City."
"I'm from Franklin, Louisiana," Keenze said proudly. "It's a great southern city and we know how to party."
You'll need to visit them yourself next year to decide who's parade is the best party on the southern coast.
